Conquering Fear To Open The Door Of Opportunity
To be young, full of vigour and life is exciting. One is filled with creativity, drive and a will to succeed, but often all this is short lived and smothered by the overwhelming presence of fear.
To be young, full of vigour and life is exciting. One is flied with creativity, drive and a will to succeed, but often all this is short lived and smothered by the overwhelming presence of fear. A fear that one is not capable or able of achieving something, that one is weak or most commonly; a fear of the unknown. Not being certain of what lays hidden in the confines of time.
The oxford dictionary defines fear as an, “unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm or the likelihood of something unwelcoming happening.” It has the ability to affect the way we see different situations or worse, embed itself so deeply into our souls that we begin to live in constant terror and anxiety. Fear has the ability to condition our minds in such a way that once the present seems similar to a previous incidence, we immediately respond negatively to whatever it is we were about to do. Our minds tend to attach certain emotions with certain situations, and most of us are familiar with the anxiety that filters through our bodies as soon as we are faced with uncertainty.
Eckheart Tolle mentions in his book, The Power of Now, that only when one becomes comfortable with uncertainty, do endless possibilities open up. Fear ceases to be the dominant factor which, in many cases, prevent proactive behaviour; rather, if one actively changes their mind set, remembering that fear is momentary, nothing compared to the power of our actions, we are then able to open up to possibility. This in turn produces faith, which precedes aliveness, creativity, alertness and most importantly hope. Hope enables us to feel confident about what ever may lie ahead, not because of our currant situation, but due to the fact that in that moment we have become conscious of possibilities in the near future. If we have faith instead of fear in the now, independent of time, together with keeping aligned with the Higher Power/Being (who most would refer to as God) we begin to live outside the confinements of time and in the infinite present. What we do each day influences the direction and quality of our futures. We will and can never be certain about tomorrow, but the present is guaranteed and filled with opportunities, opportunities which pave the way into your future.
Nelson Mandela once said that a brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
