The fresh and very talented German born DJ and producer has made his presence known in South Africa and has been the cause of an alarmingly searing heat wave across many clubs and events in Cape Town. If you find yourself drenched in great Hip Hop and urban rap jams that have you unable to control your body’s rhythmic movement to the beat, Leo Large is most certainly behind the decks!
From the early age of 14, Leo Large was enticed by the rhythmic artistry of Hip Hop and together with a group of friends and a close mentor by the name of Miles Styles, formed a hip hop band called Kurzer Prozess. The young and very talented group soon parted ways which gave Leo the chance to begin his love affair with Vinyl record and scratch mixers. Practically learning how to count on the ones and twos, his talent developed and lead him to Mzanizi, were Hip Hop was without any hesitation overtaking and outplaying many of SA’s music genres; too old to withstand the young and fresh such as Leo.
The mother city was his preferred destination and there he began his studies doing B.Com Marketing and the search for his first big gig. Even though it may have been one he would prefer not mentioning, it gave him the much needed opportunity to test his skills and introduce himself to Cape Town’s party people. As fate would have it, this very gig lead to his breakthrough and gave him the opportunity to perform at various reputable clubs such as Hemisphere, The Bang Bang Club, Chevelle, Velvet and FTV. But that was only the beginning. Soon Leo was working alongside many well known local DJs such Oskido, Rodger Goode and Euphonic, Milkshake and Switch producing tracks with artists such as Proverb , Angelo Collins, Franki M, Crazy Lu, Slikour and Skwatta Kamp. Evidently, hard work and skill will have you working with the best; on your way to becoming the best!
His ability to manipulate songs and vocals on a record, adding his unique and fresh take on familiar songs has grown his reputation all around Cape Town. One must admit that the white boy can play. Now nominee for best DJ Top 5 category at the MTN Hype awards, one can only imagine what great things lay ahead.
